Brian C. Pien, MD, MPH

Board Certifications: INFECTIOUS dISEASES, iNTERNAL mEDICINE, mEDICAL mICROBIOLOGY

Dr. Brian Pien joined Infectious Diseases Hawaii in 2007 after his fellowship, residency, and internship training for infectious diseases, internal medicine, and medical microbiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. During his time in North Carolina, Dr. Pien earned a Master in Public Health at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health and Epidemiology. Dr. Pien received his MD from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. Dr. Pien earned a BA in Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Pien grew up in Honolulu and was very happy to be able to return to Hawaii to practice medicine.

Francis D. Pien, MD

Dr. Francis Pien has been at the forefront of infectious diseases in Hawaii's medical community since 1974. Dr. Pien relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii, after his fellowship training at Stanford University, residency at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, internship at the University of Illinois, and BA at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Pien was a part of the Straub Hospital team of physicians from 1974 to 2001. In 2001, Dr. Pien ventured out on his own, establishing a community infectious disease clinic, Infectious Diseases Hawaii, 40-plus years later. Dr. Pien continues to provide exceptional care for his patients and contributes his time and expertise to support Hawaii's medical community worldwide. In 2017, Dr. Pien spent 3 months in Ethiopia teaching medical students and helping establish a clinical laboratory. Dr. Pien's current community project is Hoola Health & Urgent Care Clinic. This Christian base clinic is in the heart of the Kalihi neighborhood. Dr. Pien enjoys spending time with his 7 grandchildren and traveling.

Takashi Shinha, MD, D (ABMM)

Board Certifications: Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Medical Microbiology

Dr. Takashi Shinha joined Infectious Diseases Hawaii in 2016 after his fellowship training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for clinical microbiology, fellowship training at Indiana University School of Medicine for infectious disease, and residency training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Shinha received his MD from Osaka Medical College in Osaka, Japan. Dr. Shinha speaks Japanese, which allows our practice to help support our Japanese-speaking community.
